It has been five years since the government introduced the most savage cuts to the legal aid scheme since it was introduced after the second world war. By 2020 the government expects to have cut the Ministry of Justice's budget by 40% since 2010. In this new series, we aim to bring to light the experience of people as they go through our justice system.

Over the next 12 months we will be conducting interviews around the country. We will also be talking to the organisations that help the people find their help.

This project is a collaboration between Jon Robins of the Justice Gap and Dr Daniel Newman of Cardiff University supported by the City law firm Ashurst and the barristers' chambers Garden Court. It is not just about the state of ‘access to justice’ but it's about the precarious reality of the poor and not-so-poor in our society.
